Web site's unfiltered voting ranks General Mills No. 1

General Mills wins many prestigious awards annually, from Best Places to Work in IT to Best Places to Intern. But its most recent award came in the freewheeling, no boundaries online world.

Web site Glassdoor.com has released its inaugural Employees’ Choice Awards, and General Mills sits atop the list based on surveys collected from employees at more than 11,000 U.S. companies.

On Glassdoor.com, one appraisal by a General Mills employee reads, “The headquarters … is rather impressive as well as boasting an impressive cafeteria, health facility…. You could probably live on campus if you wanted to.”

On a five-point scale, General Mills ranked No. 1 at 4.5, along with Bain & Company, a global business consulting firm of about 3,000 employees based in Boston. Bain has been named as the "Best Firm to Work For" by Consulting magazine every year since 2003.

General Mills is in similar company, annually ranked among the 100 top companies for working mothers by Working Mother magazine and among Fortune magazine's Most Admired Companies.

Last year, General Mills further received numerous reputation awards, such as the American Business Ethics Award, World's Most Ethical Companies Award and was ranked No. 4 by Harris Interactive in its National Corporate Reputation Survey.

Like an employee survey on the Web
Glassdoor.com is a transparent, online career and workplace community where anonymous workplace reviews, ratings and salary details are posted.

The site began when its two co-founders asked, “What would happen if someone left the unedited employee survey for the whole company on the printer and it got posted to the Web?”

“The Glassdoor Employees Choice Awards are truly unique in that they are based on the unbiased voices of the people who walk the halls every day and know these companies best,” says Robert Hohman, Glassdoor CEO and co-founder.

Hohman says just by reading a few of the company reviews on the site that it’s easy to see why top companies stick out.
